A circular and climate-positive festival deserves a hospitality offering that not only limits the negative impact of the supply but is also regenerative. Not just reducing climate emissions, but actually enhancing biodiversity, healthy soil, sustainable water management, and closing local loops.
Into The Great Wide Open chooses its own food and drink offerings, allowing the festival to (partially) determine what kind of agricultural and production system it wants to support and help build for the future. This way, the festival also commits to making choices now to help create the world of tomorrow.
In 2023 and 2024, ITGWO used climate calculations to determine the average footprint per festival meal - averaging 200g - which came out to 0.4 kg CO2e. This roughly aligns with what the WFF has calculated as the amount we should adhere to globally if we want to stay within the 1.5-degree climate goals of Paris. And although climate emissions from food are certainly not the only thing that matters, this shows that delicious food is indeed possible, even within the climate boundaries of our planet.
In 2025, there will again be a number of very special food system innovators who will come to cook at ITGWO. From regenerative farmers/chefs to fermentation artists to food forest managers. This offering may provide a small glimpse into the food system of the future.
