At a climate-positive festival, an emission-free energy system for the entire event is essential. Therefore, all the power needed for all locations must be completely emission-free. No climate emissions (only power from Dutch sun and wind) and no local emissions (no nitrogen and sulfur oxides or fine particulate matter by electrifying). In 2023, we tried to take this huge step toward an emission-free energy system for all our festival locations. And we almost succeeded by operating on 85% Vlieland solar power. But the last 15% still had to rely on generators.

100% emission-free energy at all festival locations is the goal we are fully committing to in 2024 - strengthened by the data and knowledge from the past year.

In 2022, there were still four generators powered by sustainable biofuel HVO-UCO, which were fossil-free but certainly not emission-free. Together, these generators used about 6,500 liters of HVO-UCO. We managed to reduce that to 1,000 liters of HVO-UCO in 2023, and if successful, this year it will be down to 0 liters of fuel for power at all locations.
