Here you will find everything you need to know about Into The Great Wide Open. From the ferry to your place to sleep, and from the tickets to a number of pro-island tips. This way, you will arrive at the festival well-prepared.
TICKETS
Ticket sales for Into The Great Wide Open 2027 will start soon. Keep an eye on our website and socials for the exact sale date, ticket prices and the link to the ticket shop.
The crossing
Vlieland is only accessible by boat. Rederij Doeksen operates the ferry service between Harlingen and Vlieland. You can book your crossing via their website. Book your ticket in time, because around the festival weekend the boats fill up quickly. The regular crossing takes 95 minutes, while the fast service takes about 45 minutes and is slightly more expensive. On this boat you are not allowed to bring more than 2 suitcases and no handcart. This is allowed on the normal ferry service.
Are you going with several festivalgoers? Then book your boat tickets separately, because group bookings cannot be separated and changed for one of you (if necessary). Make sure you are present in the harbor in Harlingen at least 30 minutes before departure.
The journey there also requires some planning and preferably choose a fossil-free option. We call that The Good Journey.
Staying the night
You are responsible for arranging your own place to sleep during the festival. Into The Great Wide Open offers a few options through its ticket sales:
Camping Stortemelk
Stortemelk is an atmospheric campsite close to the festival grounds and a short distance from the ferry. It is located in the middle of the dunes and offers a mix of peace and conviviality. In addition to camping pitches, there are also rental accommodations. Located on the grounds is De Bolder: a restaurant and venue where you can enjoy yourself until the early hours during Into The Great Wide Open.
Nature Campsite De Lange Paal
De Lange Paal is a quiet, green campsite managed by Staatsbosbeheer. It is a ten-minute bike ride from the ferry and fifteen minutes from the festival grounds. The campsite has a natural, simple layout and is ideal for lovers of peace and nature.
For those looking for a bit more luxury, there is the BlueCAMP package at De Lange Paal: you sleep in a pre-pitched tent for three nights and wake up to a fresh breakfast. Booking an extra night is possible in consultation. Don't forget to bring your own sleeping bag!
Sleeping ships
It is also possible to spend the night on a sleeping ship. These are docked in the marina of Vlieland, within walking distance of the festival grounds. The ships are not only for sleeping but also for relaxing on deck, playing a game in the cozy dayroom, or taking a nice shower. We recommend that you only book a spot on a sleeping ship after you have purchased your festival ticket. More information on booking a sleeping ship will follow soon.
Other accommodation options
If you do not want to camp, you can also choose a hotel or holiday home via VVV Vlieland, Op Vlieland or on a ship in the Marina.
Don’t forget to bring this
Layers! Think of shirts, sweaters, and a windbreaker
Thick sweater and warm sleeping bag (it gets quite chilly at night)
Cap or hat against the sun
Slippers and swimwear for a morning dip
Sturdy footwear for dunes, forest, and longer walks
Sunscreen
Earplugs for a good night’s sleep and against loud music
Kitchen utensils if you want to cook

Transport on Vlieland
Arriving by car is not an option, as Vlieland is car-free. Fortunately, there are plenty of other ways to get around. All festival locations are within walking distance, but exploring the island by bicycle is also ideal. Bicycle rental companies are located close to the ferry terminal, so book on time and mark your bicycle with something recognizable to find it quickly.
Upon arrival on Vlieland, you can have your luggage delivered to your accommodation for a small fee by Bagagevervoer Vlieland. They can also return your bags and suitcases to the ferry terminal if desired. Do not forget to label your luggage with your name!
Accessibility
At Het Sportveld, De Open Plek, and Bij De IJsbaan you will find an extra accessible platform to watch performances. Extra accessible toilets are available at Het Sportveld and in De Bolder. At the first aid post on Het Sportveld, you can go to keep medicines cool, charge the battery of your electric wheelchair, and use the lactation room with cooling facilities. Feel free to approach our staff if you need help; they will be happy to assist you.
Het Sportveld is reasonably accessible with a wheelchair. De Open Plek and Bij De IJsbaan are less accessible (off-road tires help here), but with the EXTO pass, you can potentially enter the site via an alternative entrance. Vuurboetsduin is not accessible. The art program is located largely off the paths; in the festival app, you can find which works are wheelchair accessible.
