The Camp of The Industry
Fourteen young musicians made a record in a bunker on Vlieland.
In 2019, Into The Great Wide Open requested Willem Smit (Canshaker Pi, Personal Trainer, Steve French) to set up a project around the festival. Smit invited musicians from friend bands. Together, the group sailed by boat to Vlieland, where they created an album and accompanying film in an excavated bunker under the name The Industry.
The album is an ode to a Dutch indie scene that is in full bloom. Members of, among others, Canshaker Pi, The Homesick, Lewsberg, Pip Blom, and Korfbal contributed to the album. The Industry consists of: Abel Tuinstra, Arie van Vliet, Casper van der Lans, Cees Paris, Daan Duurland, Ian Cleaver, Jaap van der Velde, Kilian Kayser, Kick Kluiving, Lena Hessels, Marnix Visscher, Pip Blom, Tender Blom, and Willem Smit.
The complete album can be listened to below. The liner notes can be found via theindustry.nl.
Group member Kilian Kayser documented the journey to and the stay on Vlieland. A short film by him has been released alongside the album, showing a group of musicians who playfully create an album in the nature of Vlieland and who turn out to be a particularly close-knit group of friends.
