Food & drink

What you eat determines the landscape around you. That is why Into The Great Wide Open, together with the caterers, looks carefully at where our food comes from. In this way, we look for answers to the well-known question: how do we make our menu sustainable, fair, and authentic? Because the path to a better world goes through the stomach.

AUG 27-31

We believe that culinary enjoyment and a better food system go hand in hand. By working with vegetables, fruit, dairy, grains, fish, and shellfish from the region, we connect our festival with its surroundings. That is good for Vlieland, the Wadden region, and for you.

Our suppliers are also deeply connected to the region. Regenerative farmers and passionate caterers from the Wadden region, who make Vlieland bustle with local culinary treasures. Into The Great Wide Open takes place on the Wadden coast, a nature reserve full of nutritious treasures that you will find in various recipes. Think of the Oesterfabriek at the Open Plek, dreamy wild-foraged cocktails by Saskia Boer, or the unique menus at the Keukenkaravaan, where stories from all directions become edible. Food must enrich, nourish, and fulfill, with a climate-positive impact on our environment. This year, too, a menu full of care and love awaits you. Time to taste. Get stuck in.

DIRTY DISHES, CLEAN TERRAIN

You enjoy your pizza, noodle soup, or coffee on fully reusable dishes. All cups, plates, and cutlery are washed after you have returned them to the designated points. You can also drop off waste there, such as napkins. We then process it back into raw material, so it retains its value. You return cups for a deposit coin at the bar. Ceramics and boards can go back to the caterer (they appreciate that). Here you can read more about how we approach this.
