Backstage tour

The group will divide into the 4 thematic lines: emission-free energy, emission-free equipment & transport, water, and bio-based & circular building materials. For each theme, there is a backstage tour showcasing the developments on the festival grounds (such as a bidirectional charging station, a bamboo stage, and more).

In-depth sessions per theme

In-depth sessions per theme

Through practical examples from the backstage tours and presentations by experts, we discover how to take steps from starting up to scaling up.

  • Water: how can we use graywater more for drinking water reduction? We also discuss the Water Framework Directive and the adjustments needed on the construction site.

  • Biobased & circular building materials: how do we successfully bring new biobased and circular building materials to the construction site? We will discuss, among other things, the most important boundary conditions alongside sustainability and the new opportunities for carbon storage in biobased materials in the built environment.

  • Emission-free equipment & transport: we discuss new opportunities in the field of emission-free equipment, including bi-directional charging. Where do we stand now in terms of technology? How do we arrange the organization and mutual energy settlement on the construction site and festival grounds? Finally, we look at the concrete next steps for further development and scaling up.

  • Emission-free energy: we dive into the complexity of emission-free energy grids. We also look at how measurement, dashboards, and smart planning tools make these understandable and manageable. The 80 energy experts from the 32-hour hackathon present their most relevant results for the energy transition. We also zoom in on the newly published NTA guidelines for the use of hydrogen and how this serves as a blueprint to drive scaling up.

The speakers

Harm Edens

Program maker, writer, moderator, speaker, and theater maker: Harm Edens has been a familiar face in the Dutch media for decades. With his sharp observations, infectious humor, and substantive curiosity, he knows how to make complex subjects accessible to a broad audience. Harm asks questions, punctures self-evidence, and always looks for the real conversation.

For the general public, he is best known as the permanent anchorman of the satirical current affairs quiz Dit Was Het Nieuws. In addition, he makes programs for Omroep Gelderland such as Buitengewoon and Het Vierdaagse Journaal, and presents the sustainability program The Green Quest on BNR.

An important part of his work is dedicated to sustainability and the future of our planet. As an ambassador for the World Wide Fund for Nature (since 1996) and the Jane Goodall Foundation, he is actively committed to nature conservation, biodiversity, and awareness. Also as a speaker and moderator, he inspires organizations, governments, and businesses to look at societal challenges with a fresh perspective.

Peter Scheer

Peter Scheer is Business Development Manager at Nijhuis Saur Industries and focuses on circular water solutions for the built environment. With a background in horticulture, vertical farming, and international projects in countries including Nepal, Egypt, Barcelona, New York, and Uganda, he brings a unique combination of technical knowledge, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

As founder of SEMiLLA Sanitation Hubs, he developed innovative concepts combining sanitation, water treatment, nutrient recovery, and food production in closed loops. Today, he continues this mission within Nijhuis Saur Industries, working on water-neutral buildings, circular area development, and future-proof infrastructure.

During the Professionals Program, Peter shares his vision on the role of water in the construction transition and how smart, circular water systems can contribute to sustainable, resilient, and future-proof construction sites, buildings, and living environments.

Kees Vendrik

Kees Vendrik (1963) is chairman of the National Climate Platform, the link between society and policy. He was nominated by the cabinet in 2022 as the independent chairman of this platform.

As chairman of the electricity table, he played an important role in the creation of the Climate Agreement in 2019. From 2017 to 2022, Vendrik was chief economist of Triodos Bank and entered the Senate in 2019 representing GroenLinks. Prior to that, he was a member of the Netherlands Court of Audit for six years. From 1989 to 2010, he was a member of the House of Representatives for GroenLinks.

Kees Vendrik graduated as a political scientist (international economic relations). In addition to his work as NKP chairman, he holds several ancillary positions. For instance, he is chairman of the Temporary Emergency Fund for Energy and chairman of the IRBC Agreement for Renewable Energy.

Anne Koudstaal

Anne Koudstaal is Sustainability Tour Guide at TBI and co-initiator of Emission-0. For over ten years, he has been working on accelerating the sustainability of the construction sector. He was at the origin of innovations such as PlasticRoad, developed the strategy for emission-free construction at Dura Vermeer, and contributed to the establishment of WattHub, the fast-charging network for construction equipment and heavy transport.

During the Professionals Program, Anne shares his vision on the transition to an emission-free construction site and shows how cooperation, innovation, and scaling up are the keys to making the construction sector future-proof.

Claudia Walraven

Claudia Walraven is a freelance sustainability advisor and project manager. As Mediator of Innovation (MOI) for the municipality of Amsterdam, she works within the National Growth Fund Programme Future-Proof Living Environment with more than 130 partners on scaling up circular and emission-free innovations in the construction and infrastructure sector.

In Living Labs such as De Nieuwe Straat, she puts innovations into practice, such as bio-based asphalt, robotisation for reuse, and hydrogen generators (for which she is also helping to develop a safe NTA standard).

With over fifteen years of experience in festival production and ten years of expertise in sustainability, Claudia connects the events world with urban innovation and construction. In addition, she is the chairwoman of the Amsterdam Events Association (EVA). In this role, she represents the interests of the sector and is committed to a sustainable, innovative and well-connected Amsterdam events sector.

Jordi Leijnse
